Ever run ahead of God?
How many times I have been guilty of taking something I believe to be my calling from God and made it into what I thought it should be.
I believed I was supposed to teach...without stopping to realize that His idea of "teach" wasn't one of go to college, get a degree, and have my own classroom, lots of kids giving me "World's Best Teacher" mugs.
Then, I thought He said to sell books and serve others. So, I ran about like a crazy woman trying to start a business with books, coffee, and delectable goodies! Whew!
What did I learn? More importantly how long did it take me to learn?!
Today, I would like to share my favorite quote from Maya Angelou: "Do the best you can until you know better. When you know better, do better."
I'm getting better at slowing down and asking God, "Is that You? Did I hear you clearly?" I take the time now to go to His word. Nothing God calls us to do should lead to debt. Debt is against scripture.
Deut. 15:6 "For the Lord your God will bless you, as he promised you, and you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow, and you shall rule over many nations, but they shall not rule over you." (ESV)
Prov. 22:7b "...the borrower is slave to the lender." (ESV)
Instead
Prov. 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." (ESV)
Dear Lord, Oh that we will take all the lessons learned throughout the years and apply them to all future decisions we would make. Taking every thought, every plan, every desire in our hearts captive and holding them each up to the Light, Your Word, so we may be found blameless at the end of this journey. Having listened closely and dug in deeply. May we have sought to know You better and, in doing so, be better.
Thank You, Father, for Your innumerable mercies and Your grace. Thank You for Your longsuffering.
In Jesus' Precious and Holy name. Amen.
